Suspect who stabbed a taxi driver in 2022 granted bail

Sizwe Mahlangu, allegedly responsible for fatally stabbing taxi driver Thabo Sydney Mampuru will appear in court again in July.

Sizwe Mahlangu, allegedly responsible for fatally stabbing taxi driver Thabo Sydney Mampuru in 2022 at Hoopoo Street in Reyno Ridge, has been granted bail.

Mahlangu appeared again before the Witbank Magistrate’s Court on Friday, May 24, and he was granted R15 000 bail.

This comes after evading law enforcement for two years. On Sunday, May 5, the Vosman Police received information on the whereabouts of the suspect, and the members drove to Siyabuswa, where the suspect was hiding.

On their arrival, the suspect had no chance to play hide-and-seek tactics and was sniffed out from his hiding zone.

According to reports, Mahlangu, a fellow taxi driver, is accused of engaging in a heated argument with the late Mampuru over the transportation of schoolchildren.

The altercation escalated, leading to Mahlangu allegedly producing a knife and fatally stabbing the victim.

His case was postponed to Tuesday, July 2.
