MEC Ntshalintshali prioritise girls’ dignity packs

Dignity first: MEC Ntshalintshali's pledge to prioritize girls' needs.

In a heart-warming and groundbreaking initiative, the Department of Social Development has stepped forward to support indigent girls in various schools throughout the Nkangala District.

Their mission – To provide dignity packs to girls in need, ensuring that no learner misses out on valuable education due to menstrual hygiene challenges.

On Thursday, October 26, WH de Klerk learners found themselves at the forefront of this noble endeavour.

MEC for Social Development, Lindiwe Ntshalintshali, personally led the charge, underscoring the government’s commitment to these young girls.

Her visit not only symbolised the act of delivering dignity packs but also conveyed a message of empowerment and encouragement.

“Every girl deserves access to the tools that enable her to lead a life unhindered by the challenges of her period,” MEC Ntshalintshali emphasised.

The distribution of dignity packs, which include essential menstrual hygiene items, is a key component of the government’s strategy to ensure girls can focus on their education without worrying about their physical needs.

She went on to share words of inspiration with the learners, urging them to work hard in their studies and pursue their dreams. As the learners embarked on their final year exams, her wishes for their success echoed through the school corridors.

MEC Ntshalintshali’s commitment to this cause was evident in her words, “The Department of Social Development will continue to provide support to young girls in need throughout the province.”

This commitment goes beyond a single event; it is a long-term promise to empower and uplift the future of these girls.

Furthermore, in a clear statement, she asserted, “Our government cannot prioritise condoms over dignity packs because sex is a choice. We want the government to prioritise young girls so that the educational barriers faced by many can be eliminated.”

In response to this generous donation, the school expressed heartfelt gratitude to MEC Ntshalintshali and the Department of Social Development for their support.

The School Governing Body (SGB) also spoke up, emphasising the importance of this initiative in ensuring that young girls have the necessary support and resources to pursue their education with dignity and confidence.
