Glencore Coal celebrates the success of 52 graduates who emerged from the portable skills training programme recently.

Glencore Coal, a leading global mining company, recently celebrated the graduation of 52 individuals from its portable skills training programme, a significant initiative to empower youth with essential training for diverse industries.

The graduation ceremony was a momentous occasion, honouring candidates for their dedication to self-improvement.

Each graduate received a certificate, recognising their achievements and highlighting their potential to contribute positively to their communities.

Sibusiso Mbebe, Community Development Superintendent at Glencore, expressed pride, stating, “Congratulations to all the successful graduates on such an outstanding achievement, showcasing their commitment and dedication to completing their training.”

Sibusiso emphasised Glencore’s commitment to community progress, noting, “The Portable Skills Programme marked a significant shift in the lives of community members, providing the opportunity to thrive through skill transfer.”

In collaboration with Circle Way Training, Glencore ensures communities in Mpumalanga receive practical, transferable skills through a rigorous application process.

With a reach extending to over 3 000 participants, the programme serves as a gateway to the job market and entrepreneurship.

Covering diverse fields such as hospitality, beauty, agricultural practices, sewing, carpentry, welding, agriculture, fire fighting, and plumbing, the training is comprehensive.

“We are so proud of our graduates and look forward to seeing how they will use their skills for the betterment of the community and the economy,” Sibusiso added.

Phakamani Zungu, a plumbing graduate, shared his aspirations, saying, “Through the programme, I will be able to join the South African workforce and use the skills I’ve learned to contribute positively to our economy.”
