Stakeholders in Phola tackle bullying, mental health, and more for boys’ safety

Stakeholders confronting school safety issues head-on for boys

SoGutjhe Royal House has joined forces with Khulisa Social Solutions to launch a pioneering school safety campaign, specifically tailored to address the challenges faced by boys in educational settings.

The awareness campaign was held at Makause Combined School, which addressed grade 7 to grade 11 boys from Makause Combined School, Mabande Comprehensive High School, Mehlwana High School, and Hlangu-Phala Primary School.

Sergeant Thabang Ntuli, a guest speaker from Phola Police Station, said, “The purpose of the event was to educate and motivate a boy child about crime, bullying, drug usage, dangerous weapons, and their behavior or lifestyle as boys.”

The campaign featured a series of workshops covering crucial topics such as bullying prevention, mental and health support programmes, physical safety, safety initiation programmes, substance abuse, and educational issues affecting boys.

“It’s important to partner with organisations like Khulisa because we need to address the psychological challenges that boys encounter, which we as traditional leaders are unable to address ourselves,” said Ndabezitha Sipho Sombali.
