Christiaan de Wet Street closed by protesters

Locals hired by the Klarinet Bulk Water Supply Project contractors have allegedly not been paid for the past two months.

Christiaan de Wet Street is currently blockaded with rocks and barriers by aggravated protesters.

Motorists driving on the road are urged to use alternative routes today (November 12).

The protesters are locals who were hired by the Bo Mamohlala Project (BMP) in 2023 for the Klarinet Bulk Water Supply Project.

They alleged that BMP had paid the rest of the contract workers; however, no payments have been received by those hired locally.

“We have no PPE and haven’t gone for medical tests. Our colleagues have received payments and we were hired locally that have not been paid,” the protesters cried.

WITBANK NEWS reached out to BMP who is yet to respond.
