Emalahleni mayor pleads with residents to fight against GBVF

Emalahleni Local Municipality’s executive mayor shared a heartfelt message about GBV on social media.

Emalahleni Local Municipality’s Executive Mayor, Vusi Nhlapho, stood in solidarity in efforts to fight Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF).

The mayor took to social media and encouraged men to take a stand and play their part in ending the scourge of violence.

“GBVF is a societal problem, and we need everyone’s help to resolve it. The culture of silence is killing and allows for sexual harassment of women and girls. Our collective actions are key to ending GBVF, and partnerships created are helping to create a safer city for all,” Nhlapho outlined.

He then pleaded with communities to challenge negative social norms and behaviors that perpetuate GBV.

On November 28, the speaker, Mduduzi Mswati ka Nkosi further encouraged residents to report all incidents of rape and abuse, especially vulnerable groups of children, the elderly, and persons with disabilities.
