Local communities empowered by Glencore

Tweefontein’s Community Superintendent, Fiona Jara, shared that the community day helps build strong, lasting relationships with community members.

In efforts to support and empower local communities, Glencore Coal hosted its annual community day.

Glencore’s iMpunzi, Goedgevonden, and Tweefontein Complex reinforced their efforts and engaged with communities through a series of community initiatives and youth development programmes.

On Friday, November 29, Glencore Coal issued a press release and shared that the purpose of the community day was to share insights into the various departments within the mine and the career opportunities available.

“The event was designed to foster meaningful connections and offer interactive opportunities for the community to learn more about Glencore’s operations. It also highlighted important opportunities such as bursaries, learnerships, and other training programmes aimed at supporting local development,” the statement read.

Tweefontein’s Community Superintendent, Fiona Jara, shared that the community day helps build strong, lasting relationships with community members.

“By engaging with everyone, from school learners to small business owners, we want to ensure they understand how we operate and the opportunities available. Our goal is to create a relationship with the community that benefits both sides in the long run,” Fiona shared.

Community members explored various informational stalls and presentations that focused on opportunities for local suppliers, small businesses, and long-term contractors who support Glencore’s operations.

Key topics such as metallurgy, health, safety, environment, education, and procurement were also discussed, focussing on how Glencore is actively working to uplift the community.

“These conversations were aimed at raising awareness of our role in the local area and the many ways we contribute to local growth and development,” the statement ended.
