eMalahleni on flood watch

Stay safe in eMalahleni’s flood-prone areas.

The municipality warns residents of Mpumalanga to be vigilant and take necessary precautions due to the recent intense and prolonged heavy rainfall in the province. The South African Weather Service has attributed the heavy rainfall to a persistent low-pressure system, which has resulted in catastrophic flooding and damage to infrastructure.

The continuous downpour has led to rising water levels in rivers and streams, widespread erosion and landslides, and flooding of roads, homes, and businesses. Residents are advised to exercise extreme caution and take the following precautions:

– Avoid flooded areas and do not attempt to walk or drive through flooded streets

– If you encounter rising water, turn around and seek an alternate route

– Stay indoors during heavy rainfall and avoid traveling unless absolutely necessary

– Keep children and pets away from flooded areas and fast-moving water

Emergency Response Teams are on high alert, actively monitoring the situation, assessing damage, and providing assistance where needed.

The municipality urges all residents to cooperate with emergency services as they attend to emergencies and to please report any situations that are cause for concern.

Stay safe, eMalahleni!
