Witbank Dam full, but taps run dry as burst pipe wreaks havoc on eMalahleni’s water supply
WITBANK NEWS stumbled upon the burst 900mm raw water pipe wasting liters of raw water. The live video from the site attracted a lot of attention.

The water crisis in eMalahleni has taken a dire turn, with reservoir levels critically low and a burst raw water bulk pipeline from the Witbank Dam raw water pump station exacerbating the situation. Despite the Witbank Dam being 99.9 full, the municipality is struggling to provide water to residents.
The latest update from the Emalahleni Local Municipality reveals that reservoir levels are alarmingly low, with Point A at approximately 0%, Point B at 10%, and Point C LW at 23%.

The municipality has warned that the water supply to several areas has been impacted, including eMalahleni town and surrounding areas.
A team from WITBANK NEWS made an unplanned visit to the Witbank Dam, where they found a 900mm raw water line that had burst, with no one on-site to attend to the matter.
The team’s live video footage showed the extent of the damage, with residents commenting that they had been without water since yesterday morning.
The municipality has issued a statement addressing the ongoing water crisis in the area.

According to the municipality, a burst raw water pipeline from the Witbank Dam raw water pump station has exacerbated the situation.
“The municipality is aware of the raw water pipeline burst at Witbank Dam, which has been widely circulated. The matter is receiving urgent attention from our technical services department,” was the word from the municipality.
The technical team is on-site attending to the major break, assessing the nature of the problem and the extent of the damage.
The affected pipeline has been isolated to prevent further water loss, and emergency repairs will commence as soon as possible.
As this incident impacts the raw water supply to Witbank Water Treatment Works, the municipality urges all residents to use water sparingly where water supply is still available.
“We appreciate your patience while we work to restore normal water supply,” was the latest on their social media platforms.
