Where is service delivery in Ga-Nala?

Residents of Ga-Nala are strongly worried about their level of service delivery being way below average in almost everything in the area.

Imagine living in a place where the roads are so bad, you feel every bump and pothole, building and parks are dilapidated, trash everywhere, and where water is luxury, not a basic right.

Welcome to Ga-Nala where service delivery is a distant dream.

According to the residents, the roads are in disrepair, infrastructure is lacking and essential services like water and electricity are unreliable. This raised concerns, emphasised that the overall quality of the lives of the residents is negatively impacted by the insufficient service delivery.

“Papers and black bags were all over the streets of Ga-Nala,” said a resident.

The residents of Ga-Nala seem to be no strangers to hardship. Their councillor is also feeling the heat.

According to the Proportional Representative Councillor from the DA, Cornelius Conradie, attempts to address the service delivery in the area to the right authorities were made, but they are still left in the dark.

“Different parks in our area don’t get cut. We have to hire our own people and pay them to cut for us when we have games. The roads are also not okay, there are just some streets that we can drive in,” said Conradie.

According to the residents of Ga-Nala, lack of service delivery has posed a high security risk as they believe that if they had enough streetlights, some of the crimes wouldn’t be taking place in Ga-Nala.

“Housebreaking, hijacking and other types of crimes are taking place because we don’t have enough streetlights; Ga-Nala is dark,” he added.

The councillor further mentioned that at this point, mentioning service delivery during council meetings is even pointless, as nothing is being done. The community is now in need of actions, not word promises.

Despite concerns raised by the public, WITBANK NEWS drove around the area and spotted abandoned parks, buildings and uncollected refuse along the streets of Ga-Nala.

According to the Emalahleni Local Municipality spokesperson, Lebo Mofokeng, residents of Ga-Nala were addressed by their mayor regarding service delivery issue.
