Avril Street gets green light for rehabilitation

Avril Street residents got an early Christmas present as rehabilitation started on the road.

Nine years after Avril Street was washed away during heavy rainfall and flooding, the street is up for rehabilitation.

This good news was shared by Ward 20’s councillor, Clr Maureen Scheepers.

A community liaison officer was elected and the project is officially underway.

It is projected that the project that includes the rehabilitation of the whole road and an infrastructure upgrade will take six months.

The damage during the storm was so severe that residents damaged their cars, some got stuck, and refuse collection trucks could not access the road.

An improved stormwater management will also be done at the same time to prevent future flooding.
