The municipality is not playing open cards about the water situation in eMalahleni
The municipality did not admit it, but there is a possibility that the supply line for Point C is leaking.
Several areas in eMalahleni are ‘running dry’.
After four days of no water in Del Judor X1, X2, X4, Corridor Hill, Highveld Mall, Ben Fleur, and Witbank Extension 16, the Emalahleni Local Municipality has resorted to closing the water supply to other areas to fill the taps.
“This morning the municipality issued a puzzling statement announcing that parts of the eMalahleni area supplied by the Point D command reservoir are now being isolated; purportedly to boost levels at Point C. This decision contradicts their admission of a leak and will only result in further water losses, expanding the water crisis to even more areas,” said DA Councillor Salomi Kriel.
No water tankers were provided for the areas that had no water this past four days, while some low-lying areas in Reyno Ridge have started to receive limited water supply following the redirection of flow from Point D.
“Residents in other areas are now left without a single drop. This is not progress – it is water shedding,” Kriel lashed out.
She said this latest stunt again proves eMalahleni does not have the water production capacity to meet the basic needs of its residents.
“Communities are being forced into a rotating pattern of deprivation, as water is shuffled between zones in a desperate effort to mask systemic failure.”
Kriel said the DA calls on the municipality to identify and repair the leak, end the water shedding, deploy water tankers, and tell the truth about the water situation.
The municipality did not comment on the water issue.
