Alleged serial rapist appears in eMalahleni Regional Court today

Cascar Nkosi, accused of multiple rapes and kidnappings of girls aged seven to 13, appears in the eMalahleni Regional Court as the case is set to be transferred to the Mpumalanga High Court. Community members demand justice and oppose bail.

Alleged serial rapist Cascar Nkosi (39) is expected to appear at the eMalahleni Regional Court today, as the case against him continues to spark public outrage and move through legal changes.

Nkosi faces 26 charges related to the rape and kidnapping of girls aged between seven and 13, as well as a separate charge of rape and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH) involving his wife.

Today’s court appearance follows a recent U-turn by the court to transfer the case to the Mpumalanga Division of the High Court for trial.

This decision overturned an earlier directive by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), which had shifted the case to the regional court for bail and trial arrangements.

It is expected that Nkosi’s bail application and trial arrangements will be addressed during today’s proceedings.

He previously abandoned a bail bid in February 2025, citing threats to his family’s safety.

However, on May 2, he informed the court through his attorney that he now wishes to apply for bail.

Community members, political party representatives, and activists gathered outside the court this morning, calling for justice and demanding that Nkosi remain behind bars.
