Youth tackle crime head-on through sports

Young people in Kriel marked Youth Day by choosing a positive path through sports.

Kriel SAPS, together with the Social Crime Prevention Coordinator and the Youth Desk, partnered with Sereti Mine to host a Sport Against Crime campaign at the Rietspruit Sports Ground.

The initiative was held on June 16, as part of the Youth Day celebrations.

The campaign aimed to encourage young people to engage in sports as a positive alternative to involvement in criminal activities.
Various stakeholders from different departments addressed the youth, emphasising the importance of education and active participation in crime-prevention activities.
Constable Angel Makubu spoke directly to the youth about the dangers of gangsterism and urged them to use sports as a tool to stay away from crime.
Throughout the event, information pamphlets on drugs and substance abuse, crime prevention tips, and gender-based violence (GBV) were distributed to raise awareness and equip young people with valuable knowledge.
