Special Olympics South Africa Hosts youth walk and unified games in eMalahleni

Special Olympics South Africa hosted a walk for acceptance and friendly unified games led by local athlete champions.

On the streets of Ackerville, a lively youth walk in support of inclusion, organised by Special Olympics South Africa (SOSA).

The event on June 28 continued with exciting Unified Sports Games at Lynville Stadium.

The walk was led by Nkosinathi Masombuka, SOSA’s Mpumalanga Athlete Leader, who carried a strong message of empowerment and visibility for people with intellectual disabilities (ID).

“It was more than just a walk; it was a march for acceptance and awareness,” said Nkosinathi.

The event supported the Special Olympics Unified Champion Schools programme, which brings together students with and without intellectual disabilities through sport. Dozens of athletes participated in the games that followed, showcasing teamwork, respect, and talent on the field.

“The community came together to honour and support the Unified Champion Schools programme,” said Nkosinathi. “Saturday’s game was a brilliant example of how this vision comes to life across South Africa.”
