5 days of no water ahead for eMalahleni

Fill up with water and prepare for the prolonged water outage, as Emalahleni Local Municipality is gearing up for maintenance on the water supply system.

Fill all your available containers, bathtubs, and buckets because residents are facing yet another prolonged water outage.

It is estimated that the water outage will take five days, from July 14 to 18.

The local municipality is planning maintenance on the water supply infrastructure.

The planned maintenance will be undertaken at Witbank Water Treatment Works, Old Coronation Bulk Water Pipeline, Point B Reservoir, Point D Reservoir Pump Station, and Point D 5 Megalitre Reservoir.

During the repair works, all areas supplied by Reservoirs Point A, B, C, D, and E will be affected.

“During the shutdown period, one municipal water supply scheme will be operational providing water to critical areas such as hospitals and other public institutions,” said municipal spokesperson Lebo Mofokeng.

He added that once the shutdown is completed, filling up of reservoirs and charging of the water reticulation infrastructure will be undertaken before the distribution to consumers, which can take up to three days to normalise.

Water tankers will only be available at strategic areas such as hospitals and clinics when needed.
