Post-mortem uncovers strangulation as the cause of death
SAPS Kriel reclassifies Ga-Nala case as murder after autopsy findings.
A tragic case that has held the Ga-Nala community in quiet suspense has taken a disturbing turn.
SAPS have confirmed that the man found dead in a stream behind the old athletics field last month was the victim of strangulation, shifting the narrative from tragic loss to suspected foul play.
The man, whose identity has not been publicly disclosed, was last seen on May 24 enjoying a night out with friends. When he failed to return home, a missing person’s case was officially opened by his family on May 28.
Days turned into weeks as concern grew, but hopes of a safe return were tragically dashed on June 14, when his body was discovered behind the old athletics field in a nearby stream.
On June 14, Captain Nkosinathi Ndaba, spokesperson of SAPS Kriel, confirmed the following: “He was an African male found face down in shallow water, with no visible injuries. The eerily calm scene was at odds with the growing worry from loved ones and residents. His remains were recovered by SAPS, and a family member was promptly notified.”
Ndaba confirmed on July 7 that the investigation remains ongoing, with the cause of death being strangulation. What was initially regarded as a mysterious disappearance and an accidental death has now been escalated to a suspected homicide.
