Phola men’s conference tackles mental health and GBV
The event emphasised the need for men to take responsibility in society.
The Men of Truth recently hosted a thought-provoking men’s conference at the Roman Catholic Church to discuss mental health and celebrate Women’s Month.
Led by the organisation’s ambassadors, Pastors Themba Mkhuba and Themba Mnguni, the event on August 2 brought together community leaders, law enforcement officials, and traditional authorities who all gathered with a shared goal of discussing all things men.
The conference also featured various stakeholders that included representatives from the South African Police Service, Phola Pastors Forum, Youth Desk, Ndzundza SoGutjhe Traditional House, Emalahleni FM, and Blue Mining Services, among others.

Bishop Kenny Mndebele from the Phola Pastors Forum delivered an impactful and educational sermon on mental health, stressing the need for men to take responsibility in society and touching on how God can serve as a source of refuge above all.
Sergeant Thabang Ntuli from Phola SAPS also presented on Gender-Based Violence, domestic violence, and men’s involvement in serious crimes. He also highlighted the Domestic Violence Act and individuals’ rights as outlined in the Constitution.
“The event was a great success, and we hope that all the men who were in attendance learnt a thing or two and will begin to improve where they need to,” Ntuli said.
