eMalahleni women come together in thanksgiving

The event was aimed at promoting unity in churches and encourage joint prayers.

Umlilo Wevangeli, led by Pastor Ray Mabena, in partnership with eMalahleni Combined Groups, recently hosted a Women’s Celebration themed ‘Power of Thanksgiving’.

Held on August 20 at Lynnville Hall, the event brought together women from various churches in eMalahleni to celebrate women’s pride and dignity, recognising the significant impact they have in communities.

“Through the event, we aimed to promote unity in churches and encourage joint prayers, breaking the discrimination and separation among churches,” Mabena said.

The speaker of the Emalahleni Local Municipality, Nombuso Shabangu, who was one of the guests who spoke at the event, reflected on the bravery of the women of 1956 who marched to the union building with a firm declaration, “Wathint’ Abafazi, Wathint’ Imbokodo!” meaning you strike a woman, you strike a rock!

“We give thanks to the resilient women of eMalahleni who continue to rise, build families, nurture communities, and lead with wisdom, despite all social and economic challenges,” she said.

She added that women empowerment is not just a slogan but a responsibility.

“As government and society, we must ensure that women have equal access to opportunities, education, economic empowerment, and protection from the scourge of Gender-Based Violence and Femicide, which continue to plague our country,” Shabangu said.

Keynote speaker Dr Jeannette Nyandeni went on to encourage the women to hold steadfast in prayer, reminding them of the power they carry. She also stressed the importance of faith and unity in overcoming life’s challenges.

The event was a resounding success, and Mabena commended everyone who participated in it.

“We are really grateful to the guests who graced us with their presence, the women of eMalahleni for coming in great numbers, and everyone who contributed to the success of the event,” he said.
