Ed-U-College leads the way in education reform

The event outlined the role of SACE to the legal rights and responsibilities of independent schools.

Ed-U-College Combined School recently hosted the Mpumalanga Regional Conference of the National Alliance of Independent Schools Associations (NAISA).

Held on August 20 at The Ridge Casino, the event brought together a mix of education leaders, government officials, and independent school stakeholders for a day filled with insight, inspiration, and impactful dialogue.

NAISA, the collective voice of independent schools in South Africa, utilised this platform to address some of the most pressing issues facing the sector today.

From the role of the South African Council for Educators (SACE) to the legal rights and responsibilities of independent schools, the conference was filled with meaningful conversations that will shape the future of education in the province.

The attendees got more information as key speakers took the stage. Representatives from the Mpumalanga Department of Education supported the event. Tebogo Mokgolobotho from SACE outlined what they expect from educators.

“We will also visit schools to make sure that there are no unqualified, underqualified, and unregistered educators,” said Tebogo.

Chairperson William Bester, Deputy Chairperson Mandla Mthembu, and Secretary-General Ebrahim Ansur shared valuable insights that challenged perspectives and encouraged collaboration.

“Parents should collaborate with school officials and obey rules. Schools do have rights to exclude learners at some points. You cannot fail to pay your child’s fees and still expect him/her to attend and obtain services, especially if not communicated with the school officials and agreed on a certain option,” said Mandla.

Behind the scenes, Jacques Jacobs, Executive Manager at Ed-U-College Combined School and Joint Liaison Committee Chairman of Mpumalanga, marked a conference to remember.

His vision and dedication were the driving force behind the event’s success. After months of planning and coordination, his dream of hosting a regional conference became a reality, and the impact was felt by all who attended.

Ed-U-College Combined School further appreciated the opportunity to take the lead and host the conference.
