Poor road conditions in eMalahleni
Potholes pose a threat to the livelihoods of the community.
Residents in eMalahleni are growing increasingly frustrated with the poor road conditions, which continue to make their lives miserable.
“Residents believe their streets have become a hazard to drivers and pedestrians as it is lined with potholes and uneven surfaces, and instead of improving, the situation is deteriorating with time,” said Rossie Raschke from AfriForum’s neighbourhood team.
With many parts of the City of Coal experiencing this issue, AfriForum offered its help to fix some of the potholes in eMalahleni so that residents have better roads.

AfriForm fixed holes in Susanna Street and Maria Street in Model Park.
“Our roads are very poor, and we try to fix what we can to help the community,” said Rossie.
Potholes are a significant problem in eMalahleni, exacerbated by heavy mine truck traffic and poor road maintenance, leading to vehicle damage and hazardous driving conditions.
Residents report constant issues with impassable roads and numerous large potholes.
While authorities acknowledge the problem and have systems for reporting such issues, the sheer volume of potholes and the slow pace of repairs create a challenging and dangerous environment for drivers.
