Municipality warns residents of fraudulent individual targeting households
Residents urged to stay alert following reports of a man posing as a municipal official and attempting to extort money.

Emalahleni residents are being urged to remain vigilant after reports emerged of a fraudulent individual targeting households in the area.
The suspect, described as a man between 50 and 60 years old, is reportedly posing as a representative of the Emalahleni Local Municipality.
According to the municipality, the individual enters homes and falsely claims that essential services, such as water or electricity, will be cut off imminently.
He demands payment from residents to ‘prevent’ the disconnection.
The municipality emphasises that these claims are entirely false and constitute fraud.
Municipal officials have issued important reminders to residents: The municipality does not send representatives door-to-door to collect payments, and all official notices regarding service interruptions are issued in writing or through official municipal channels.
Residents are urged to never give money to individuals claiming to represent the municipality, and to report any suspicious activity immediately to their local police station or municipal office.
Authorities also encourage residents to share this warning with neighbours, family, and friends to help safeguard the community.
For assistance or to report suspicious activity, contact Emalahleni Law Enforcement at 082 340 8484 or 082 622 9171, or visit your nearest police station.
