eMalahleni hit by another bloody weekend: 4 murder cases in 48 hours
The police urge anyone who has information on the murder cases to visit the police station or contact Witbank SAPS or Crime Stop.
It was yet another bloody weekend in eMalahleni as the police received reports about four separate incidents that claimed four lives in different parts of the city.
According to the officer on duty on November 29, at around 09:00, he received a report about a man who died at the Witbank Hospital casualty. Upon arrival at the hospital, the officer said he was taken to the deceased, who had bandages on the face. During investigations, it was discovered that the man had been brought to the hospital around 03:00 after he was attacked with a panga in Springvalley.
He was declared dead by a doctor at the hospital around 08:00.
In another incident, another officer who was on duty on the day said he was with his colleague when they received a report about a dead man in Coronation around 06:30. Upon arrival at the scene, they found the lifeless body with a head injury, a bruised face, and a gunshot wound on the right side of his ribs.
Around 07:30, another officer said he visited a crime scene at a tavern in Coronation, where they found a dead man lying on the ground with a stab wound on the upper part of the body.
The next day, the officer on duty said he was with his colleague when they received a call around 07:30, reporting a murder at a house in Masakhane. Upon arrival, the officers reported that they found community members, together with the man who was found dead, lying in a supine position outside his room. The deceased had a stab wound on his chest, with the knife found not far from the lifeless body.
The police are continuing in their efforts to find the murderers, with just one arrest made in the four cases.
Captain Eddie Hall from the Witbank SAPS advised that people who drink alcohol should drink responsibly and avoid getting into arguments. “As we are approaching the festive season, we advise people who visit taverns to be very careful and drink responsibly. Drunkenness leads to fighting, and then they start killing one another,” Hall said.
Anyone with information that could help the police in solving the cases can call Witbank SAPS at 079 891 5570 or Crime Stop at 086 001 0111.
