One car was hijacked, other stolen, and another two were attempted

Police are calling on motorists to avoid stopping anywhere on the road, as their safety may be compromised when they least expect it.

Vehicles were targeted over the past weeks in Witbank Policing area as a car was hijacked, a bakkie was stolen, and another vehicle was nearly stolen.

Hijacking of a sedan on N12

A man was hijacked at gunpoint on the N12, reportedly by four armed men who pretended to be officers of the law, on January 28.

According to the police, a man was driving in Tasbet Park toward the N12 when he noticed a car that was following, but he didn’t pay much attention to it.

On the N12, the car flicked blue lights at him, making him assume that it was the police, and he stopped. They asked for his license and asked him to get out of his car and go to their car, as they claimed that there’s someone who would like to see him.

The man went to the car, and he was reportedly forced into the car at gunpoint. The man said they tied his hands, blindfolded him, drove with him, and robbed him of his phone and bank card. He was later dropped by the roadside, where he untied himself and looked for help.

An Isuzu bakkie was stolen

A man woke up to find his car nowhere to be found in Masakhane.

According to the police, on February 3, a man had parked his Isuzu bakkie inside the yard next to the house with all doors and windows locked. When he woke up, his car was nowhere to be found. The man reported that he didn’t hear any suspicious activities throughout the night.

Thieves attempt to make off with a car in Del Judor

According to the police, on January 30, a man had parked his Toyota Fortuner for a quick errand. Upon return, he found his door tampered with.

SAPS investigates theft out of a motor vehicle

In another type of criminal activity, thieves attempted to take items from a car in Tasbet Park.

According to the police, on February 2, a man had parked his car in a right state. When he woke up in the morning, he found his front window pulled down, cracked, and with a small hole. However, no item was stolen.

Police investigation

Witbank SAPS is currently investing a case of carjacking, theft of a motor vehicle, attempted theft of a motor vehicle, and attempted theft out of a vehicle. Anyone with information that could assist with the investigation is urged to contact Witbank SAPS at 079 891 5570 or 013 655 5052.
