Another motorist left on edge following a hijacking at gunpoint in Tasbet

The incident marks two carjackings just eight days apart in Tasbet Park.

A man’s evening trip was turned into the worst evening to remember following a hijacking at gunpoint in Tasbet Park recently.

According to the police, the man told them that he was driving his car in Tasbet Park, but when nature called, he decided to stop.

As he was urinating, three men in a bakkie stopped and pointed a firearm at him. The trio then made off with his car.

A case was opened at the Witbank SAPS, and police investigations are currently underway.

This incident follows a concerning hijacking of the Emalahleni Local Municipality’s garbage truck.

The truck was hijacked at gunpoint in Tasbet Park in broad daylight.

According to the police, the driver said that while his colleagues were loading refuse bags at the back of the truck, a man approached him on the driver’s side.

As the driver opened the door to hear the man more clearly, the man allegedly pointed a firearm at him and forced him into the back seat.

The driver was reportedly ordered to lie down while the hijackers drove the truck to Clewer. He told the police that he was then pushed out of the vehicle before the hijackers fled with the truck.

The registration number of the truck is JMJ 513 MP, and the truck remains nowhere to be found.

The SAPS offers the following tips to help residents stay safe, particularly when driving at night: “Keep doors locked and windows closed while driving, especially at night or in isolated areas. Stay aware of your surroundings; avoid distractions such as mobile phones when stopping at intersections or in quiet streets. Do not resist armed hijackers; personal safety is more important than possessions. Report suspicious activity immediately to your nearest police station or emergency number. Avoid displaying valuables such as cash, phones, or GPS devices in plain view. Use well-lit, populated areas for parking, and avoid shortcuts through isolated streets or informal settlements.”
