Residents of Siyanqoba block roads over service delivery failures

The road has been blocked since this morning. Police are at the scene, monitoring the situation.

Siyanqoba residents took to the streets early this morning, blocking the road and demanding urgent intervention from the Emalahleni Local Municipality.

Through their protest, the residents came in large numbers to get their voices heard, saying they are fed up with the municipality’s inaction regarding issues of service delivery.

“I’ve been staying in Siyanqoba for eight years, and there’s still no proper infrastructure, electricity, water, sanitation, waste management, or employment opportunities,” said Fiona Sibande, one of the affected and frustrated residents.

“Our leaders from the municipality only come to us when they need something, make promises, and fail to deliver.”

The community has lost patience, with many, especially the youth, frustrated due to unemployment.

“We’re tired of being ignored,” the residents said.
