Family escapes Ben Fleur house fire

The family was awakened by the neighbours informing them about their burning garage.

A fire broke out at a house in Peridot Street in Ben Fleur last night, leaving a garage and parts of the living area in ruins.

According to Paulina Mmutlane, the owner of the house, on February 26, around 21:00, she was sleeping with her husband, kids, and helper when their neighbours informed them of the fire.

“We don’t know what caused the fire. We were just sleeping, and the neighbours called us telling us that our garage is on fire,” Mmutlane said. “When we came out, the garage was almost half-burned.”

Though the family came out uninjured, the fire still damaged the garage and some areas, including parts of their living area, with estimated damages ranging from R400 000 to R600 000.

Fortunately, it was extinguished before it could reach the other rooms and cause even more damage.

The cause of the fire is still unknown, with the police investigating to identify the cause.

“At this point, all we need is emotional support,” the mother said.
