Cansa marks 95 years with colour and courage again in Bel Fleur Boulevard
If you missed the first opportunity to trade your hair for hope, you will have a second chance this coming Saturday.

eMalahleni residents filled Ben Fleur Boulevard with colour, courage, and compassion at the annual Cansa Shavathon event. Heads were shaved, hair was sprayed in bold hues, and donations poured in, all as powerful acts of solidarity with cancer patients and survivors.
The event took place on February 28.
Since its start in 2003, the Shavathon has become one of South Africa’s most recognisable cancer awareness campaigns. It’s a movement of unity.
Each shaved head or splash of colour is a symbol of support for those in treatment, a tribute to survivors, and a remembrance of loved ones lost.

This year’s event carried extra weight as Cansa celebrates 95 years of caring for South Africans impacted by cancer. For nearly a century, the organisation has ensured that no one faces cancer alone, with funds raised sustaining vital services such as patient support programmes, cancer screening, education initiatives, and Cansa Care Homes for those far from treatment centres.
Andries du Preez summed it up best: “Cansa Shavathon is not only limited to one day but can be celebrated all year round. February marked National Shavathon month and was enjoyed by many across South Africa.”
If you couldn’t make it to Ben Fleur Boulevard, don’t worry – the Shavathon spirit continues. The next event will take place at The Ridge Casino on March 7, providing more residents with the opportunity to shave, spray, and donate in support of this incredible cause.
So grab your courage, add some colour, and join the movement.
