Two men accused of a house robbery and rape in Siyanqoba remain in police custody after being denied bail. They appeared before the Witbank Magistrate’s Court on February 27, while a third suspect in the case is still at large.

This comes after a house robbery and rape case was reported on September 21, last year, at approximately 00:10.

She reported that after hearing a knock at the door and remaining silent, the suspects smashed a bedroom window to gain entry.

Fearing for her children’s safety, she moved them to another room before the suspects confronted her.

The victim alleged that one of the men pointed a firearm at her and demanded money, whereafter she was forced into another bedroom and allegedly gang raped.

Community member Nomsa Masiyela, during the latest court proceedings, said, “We don’t want them outside, as we are not safe around them. We stand with the victim and support all women who face such violence. We invite more women to join us, because incidents like this can happen to anyone, and together we can raise our voices for justice.

The case was postponed to March 17.
