Dagga worth R1 million confiscated

Vigilant police gave the drug industry a proper uppercut when they seized dagga before it could reach the streets.

A routine patrol by SAPS turned into a major drug bust as a haul of dagga worth R1 million was confiscated earlier today.

This breakthrough follows the vigilant police officers who spotted a gold Toyota Hilux bakkie carrying several large plastic-wrapped bags between eMalahleni and Bethal on the R544.

When the driver of the bakkie realised he was spotted, he stopped and ran away.

Police seized dagga worth R1 000 between eMalahleni and Bethal on March 11.

A search of the bakkie revealed 46 large bags of compressed dagga. Both the vehicle and the dagga were seized, as they were involved in the commission of a crime.

Police are currently following up leads, and arrests are expected soon.

Captain Eddie Hall, Witbank SAPS spokesperson, said, “Anyone with information that may assist the police investigation is urged to contact Witbank SAPS on 079 891 5570, call Crime Stop on 08600 10111, or submit information anonymously through the MySAPS mobile application.”
