Man dies following collision as alleged kidnappers attempt to flee scene with him

The deceased victim died when his car, which the alleged kidnappers were fleeing the scene in, collided with another vehicle not far from the scene.

One man died, and two suspects are hospitalised following a collision on Verena Road over the weekend.


According to the police, the deceased was kidnapped from his home with another family member when his bakkie, which was also reportedly stolen from the scene, collided with another vehicle not far from his home.


The incident happened on March 28, just after midnight, and the owner of the car died on the scene.


According to the available information, three men who were allegedly armed with firearms entered the victim’s home, pointed firearms at the family members, and demanded money from them.


It is further reported that the three men took the deceased’s car, forced him and another family member into it, and drove with them.


The deceased’s vehicle was then shortly involved in a collision with another vehicle on Verena Road, not that far from where it was taken. The car’s owner died instantly, and two others, including two suspects, were injured.

A case of house robbery and culpable homicide was opened, and the police investigation is still ongoing.


According to the police, the injured duo remains hospitalised, and they will appear in court as soon as they are discharged.
