Empumelelweni roads call for long-term TLC – tar roads

The roads were recently regraveled as a short-term solution; however, it lasted for only a few days.

Shortly after Empumelelweni residents in Ward 29 voiced concerns over the poor state of their roads, they were met with a short-term solution from the municipality when the gravel roads were finally regravelled after months of neglect, they say.

However, the joy was short-lived; the rains have since undone the repairs, leaving the roads muddy, uneven, and nearly impassable once again.

Community frustration has now reached a tipping point as they argue that gravel roads are no longer a viable option, as each rainfall erases progress and wastes municipal resources.

EFF Emalahleni subregional secretary and caucus whip, Sekgala Mahero, has been outspoken about the need for a permanent solution.

“EFF must just take over and tar the road – that’s the only solution,” Sekgala said, adding that tar roads are the long-term fix that will finally bring stability to the people of Empumelelweni.
