Relief at last as power restored in Ward 20

The blackout had left areas including Jackaroo Agricultural Holdings, Elandspruit, and Kromdraai in the dark.

After more than three days of darkness and mounting frustration, there’s now light in Ward 20.

Power was restored around 17:00 on June 1, after residents were left in the dark following an outage that began in the early hours of May 29.

The blackout had left communities including Jackaroo Agricultural Holdings, Elandspruit, portions of Seekoeiwater, Kromdraai, and areas stretching towards the Middelburg border without electricity and, in many cases, without water. Borehole systems had failed, groceries spoiled, and generator costs soared as residents waited for answers from the power giant and the municipality.

Ward councillor Maureen Scheepers, who had repeatedly reported verified updates, welcomed the restoration but emphasised that the ordeal highlighted serious gaps in communication.
