239 Round Table Powerlines Winter Festival makes a difference

The Winter Festival offered something for everyone, with games, competitions and entertainment for all ages.

From the crackle of potjiekos fires to the cheers of traditional boeresport, the local community turned out in their numbers to shake off the winter chill for a good cause. On May 30, the annual winter festival took over the popular Riverbank Lodge for a day of affordable, family-focused fun that instantly translated into vital charity relief.

The festival featured a variety of activities for all ages, including a fishing competition, a potjiekos competition, a modelling contest hosted by Ladies Circle 26, and traditional boeresport events, including tug-of-war, sack races, balloon catching, teaspoon races, and plank walking.

Foxie Lieuwes, chairman of Witbank 239 Round Table Powerlines, expressed his gratitude for the community’s support, “The day went well. We will definitely be able to make a difference. It will allow us to assist a few families and provide essential supplies,” said Foxie.

“We also managed to raise about R900 through non-perishable food donations, including canned food and maize meal for the shelter.”
