Mayor strengthens partnerships to support spaza shops

The municipality believes that the platform will not only assist entrepreneurs with compliance, but also provide them with the tools to operate legally, protect their businesses, and contribute to the township economy.

The mayor of Emalahleni Local Municipality, Cllr Vusi Nhlapho, has welcomed new partnerships aimed at helping spaza shop and tuck shop owners meet compliance standards and grow within township economies.

On July 8, Nhlapho met with representatives from the National African Federated Chamber of Commerce and Industry, EMA Tumbo, and the Angel Network to discuss collaborative measures to help small business owners register their businesses and comply with municipal by-laws.

The meeting focused on creating a platform where existing and prospective entrepreneurs can register their businesses and receive guidance on regulatory requirements.

The initiative is designed to encourage lawful business operations while creating opportunities for more residents to participate in local economic development.

Nhlapho emphasised that strengthening compliance and supporting small businesses are essential to improving service delivery and promoting inclusive growth.

“This partnership will help create an enabling environment for sustainable local enterprise development in eMalahleni,” he said.
