Eye testing initiative brings vital support to learners living with albinism in eMalahleni

Learners living with albinism in eMalahleni are gaining more than just eye tests; they’re receiving life-changing support.

Learners living with albinism in eMalahleni are seeing more than just clearer vision; they are gaining access to life-changing support following a targeted eye testing initiative held at the Emalahleni Local Municipality Banquet Hall.

The programme forms part of ongoing efforts to improve access to essential healthcare services within the community.

The eye testing drive on April 7 was coordinated by the Transversal Unit under the Office of the Executive Mayor, bringing together key stakeholders to address vision-related challenges faced by learners with albinism.

In addition to vision screening, the initiative also focused on raising awareness about health risks associated with prolonged exposure to sunlight and high temperatures, conditions that disproportionately affect individuals living with albinism.

Learners were provided with guidance on protective measures and referred for further support based on their specific needs.
