2 men robbed at gunpoint a few days apart
Recent incidents in which a pedestrian was snatched into a taxi and a hitchhiker held captive while his bank account was emptied, deem Emalahleni unsafe.
Vosman SAPS is investigating two armed robberies that left a hitchhiker and a pedestrian stripped of their cash and cellphones in the same week.
In the first incident that occurred in the afternoon of April 23, a man told the police that he had been on his way from a local supermarket when a taxi with four men stopped next to him.
He said one of the men pointed a firearm at him and instructed him to get inside the vehicle. They reportedly drove off with the victim toward a school in Clewer, assaulting and robbing him of his cellphone and cash along the way.
The victim was thereafter ditched in the street.
On April 25, around 19:30, another incident occurred in which a hitchhiker was also robbed. According to the police, the man got a lift in Kwa-Guqa from a vehicle he thought would take him to Clewer.
Along the way, he said one of the two men he found inside suddenly pointed a firearm at him and demanded his banking pin, while the other one searched him.

As soon as the man gave up his pin, the robbers reportedly drove to Kromdraai, leaving the victim under the supervision of one man.
The victim said more than R10 000 was withdrawn from his account by the robbers, who dumped him close to a boarding school and tied him up using his shoelaces.
SAPS strongly advises against hitchhiking and offering lifts to strangers, as it places individuals in highly vulnerable positions, often leading to crimes such as robbery, hijacking, assault, sexual assault, and murder.
