Woman shot dead in Old Coronation, alleged GBV

The woman's boyfriend is expected to appear at the Emalahleni Magistrate’s Court today, facing murder charges.

Another eMalahleni family is mourning the sad death of their loved one, who died in an incident believed to be GBV in Old Coronation.

The incident occurred on May 8, and the woman was declared dead on the scene.

According to the police, the woman had been sitting with her boyfriend and two neighbors, drinking beers.

The neighbours later left, but within minutes, they heard two gunshots ring out from the boyfriend’s house.

Alarmed, they rushed back and found the suspect in his yard allegedly carrying a handgun, while his girlfriend lay bleeding from a gunshot wound to the head.

Police were swiftly notified and responded to the scene. The suspect in the murder case was arrested on the scene, and a 9mm pistol was seized.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the firearm belonged to the suspect.

According to the police, inside the magazine were 10 rounds of ammunition.

One cartridge case was stuck in the pistol chamber, causing a stoppage, while another cartridge case was found on the ground.

The victim was declared dead at the scene.

The police have confirmed that the suspect is in custody. Investigations are ongoing, and he is expected to make his first court appearance on May 11.
