Woman killed on N12 crash scene, two trucks burn

The woman had gotten out of her vehicle to assess its condition after a multi-vehicle crash on the N12, when another vehicle hit her.

A woman died in a horrific multiple-vehicle crash that occurred on the N12 toward the R555 Ogies/Blackhill off-ramp earlier today.

According to the officials who attended the scene, shortly after the collision, which involved a petrol tanker, a vehicle crashed into a woman’s car at the scene.

As she got out to examine the situation, another vehicle pulled up and ran over her. She was confirmed dead at the scene.

Of the total number of crashes that kept piling up around the same area during the thick fog, two trucks, including the petrol tanker, caught fire.

Two people sustained injuries and were rushed to the hospital.

Moeti Mmusi from the Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison advised that if there is a heavy fog, motorists should always pull off and wait for it to clear.

“If you must really drive, you have to be extra cautious and make sure that you are visible and that you can also see other vehicles,” he said. “That is why we always encourage people to put on their hazards and be careful, also about the use of heaters because sometimes they can make you fall asleep, leading to accidents.”
