Help HGH sing its way to Cape Town
The Hoërskool Generaal Hertzog Choir wants to sing, but funds are needed.
The Hoërskool Generaal Hertzog (HGH) Choir has been selected to compete in the prestigious 2026 ATKV-Applous National Finals in Cape Town.
The 69-member choir, comprising learners from Grades 8 to 12, earned its place among South Africa’s top school choirs after competing against more than 300 choirs nationwide.
The choir will perform in the open category for Spiritual Music, using their voices to share a message of hope, faith and unity.

The school principal, Gerhard van Rooyen, said the achievement reflects the dedication of the learners.
“What makes our choir unique is that our learners have no formal music training. They are dedicated academics, sports players, and student leaders who juggle demanding schedules simply because they love making music together,” he said.
The school is seeking sponsorships to help cover travel and accommodation costs for the 1 400km journey on July 29.
“By investing in the HGH Choir, you are investing in a group of disciplined, hard-working children who represent the very best of our community’s future. Help us carry the spirit of eMalahleni to the steps of the Cape Town City Hall,” he added.
The HGH Choir has built a strong reputation over the years, including appearances at national competitions and an international performance for the German Embassy’s ‘Germany Meets Mzansi’ initiative in 2025.
