Residents are set for the longest night of the year as the winter solstice takes over the Southern Hemisphere.

Residents are being reminded that today is the Winter Solstice – the moment when the Southern Hemisphere experiences its shortest period of daylight and longest night.
As winter officially begins, people are encouraged to prepare for colder nights ahead, especially across the Highveld, where temperatures are expected to drop further in July.
In the Northern Hemisphere, it is vice versa, as people experience the longest day and shortest night.
