DM Motsaosele national champion choir sets sights on another victory

DM Motsaosele Secondary School’s award-winning choir is preparing to defend its national title while appealing for support to help learners attend upcoming competitions.

The choir from DM Motsaosele Secondary School is preparing to return to the ABC Motsepe South African Schools Choral Eisteddfod (SASCE) 2026, determined to defend the title they won last year.

Led by teacher and conductor Godfrey Zunguza, the choir made history last year after competing in the Motsepe Choral Competition and reaching the national stage, where they claimed first position.

“We are ready to defend our title as we go again this year,” he said.

The choir secured its place after winning the Secondary B African category at the provincial instalment of SASCE 2026 hosted at the Steve Tshwete Local Municipality.

However, the learners’ journey does not end there. The choir is also preparing to participate in a major choral event in Pietermaritzburg this August, where they hope to continue showcasing their talent.

The school is appealing for support to make the trip possible for the 70 learners who are part of the choir. The school is also seeking assistance to purchase matching tracksuits for the group’s trip, ensuring that learners look professional, feel united, and represent the school with pride.

“We want them to look professional and feel proud as a team,” said Godfrey.

Community members and potential sponsors who would like to support the choir can contact the school principal, Oupa Ndlozi, on 013 553 3751.
