Community action and high-tech search trap a wanted suspect.
Vosman police have arrested a 28-year-old man in connection with a series of serious crimes in and around eMalahleni.
The police launched a tracing operation and acted on information received on June 26 that led them to Ackerville.
Police station spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Vusi Mnisi said that on spotting the officers, the suspect attempted to flee on foot into nearby bushes and police pursued.
According to Mnisi the suspect had been on the run following multiple incidents, including robberies allegedly carried out with accomplices using a white Volkswagen Polo.
“With help and collaboration from a private security company, a drone system was used in the apprehension of the suspect,” he added.
In a more recent incident, the suspect is alleged to have assaulted a female friend, during which she sustained an ear injury.
The Vosman SAPS station commander, Brigadier Lindani Ndlovu, has applauded all the community members who played an important role in assisting the police by providing information.
He further encouraged community members to report any suspicious-looking vehicles and people.
The suspect is expected in court soon.
