Cellphones, cash, and electronics stolen during house robberies in eMalahleni
Swift action by the Witbank SAPS led to the arrest of a suspect in one incident, while investigations continue into a separate house robbery that took place in Klarinet.
The Witbank SAPS is investigating two separate house robberies where valuables – including cellphones, clothing, and cash – were stolen.
In the first incident, which occurred on June 23 around 22:45, a family in Klarinet was robbed at gunpoint after two men broke into their home while they were asleep.
According to the police, a woman said they went to sleep with all doors and windows properly locked.
However, a few hours later, she was awakened by the sound of a door opening, only to see two armed men entering her bedroom.
The woman was asked about her husband, and when she said he was not home, the men reportedly took three cellphones from her headboard.
She said the robbers then proceeded to the other rooms where the children were, and to another room where an aunt slept, taking every cellphone they found.
The woman was also robbed of money she had in the house. Additionally, the robbers made off with some clothes, sneakers, a TV, and a laptop.

On the morning of July 5, another incident occurred at a home in Del Judor. A man told the police that he was still sleeping around 07:00 when he suddenly heard a noise inside his house.
When he woke up, he found a man he knew and began wrestling with him. However, the intruder managed to escape with the victim’s cellphone.
Cases were opened, and while the robbers in the first incident are still on the run, the police acted swiftly to arrest the suspect in the second incident.
Warrant Officer David Ratau from the Witbank SAPS said, “To avoid house robberies, always make sure to secure your doors and windows before you go to sleep, report any unusual or suspicious activity to the police, and lastly, know your surroundings and neighbours so that it is easy for you to get help.”
