Unbeaten Witbank High girls bring Cohesion trophy home

Not far behind the girls, the boys’ soccer team secured bronze for the school.

The Witbank High School girls’ soccer team has achieved a remarkable milestone by winning the annual DUT and EHS Cohesion Soccer Tournament in style.

The team displayed dominance from the very first whistle, finishing the group stages at the top of the table with 12 points after four consecutive victories.

They crushed Dlangezwa High School 13-1, overpowered John Ross 15-1, edged Khombimbela 2-0, and outplayed Tholokuhle 5-2, proving their strength and consistency.

In the knockout stages, Witbank High continued its winning streak with a commanding 5-0 victory over Empangeni High School in the quarterfinals.

The semifinal clash saw them once again overpower Tholokuhle, this time with a 4-0 scoreline. The grand finale was no different, as Witbank High sealed the championship with a 4-0 win against the Mandla Mthethwa School of Excellence, lifting the trophy without conceding a single goal in the knockout rounds.

Captain Anathi Tyinogwana stood out as the star of the tournament, earning the titles of Player of the Tournament and Top Goal Scorer with an impressive tally of 12 goals.

As Witbank High School celebrated victory, it thanked the technical team, which played a crucial role in guiding the girls to success. Team managers Nkuli Fakude and Phehello Mogale, together with Coach Mbali Khumalo, provided tactical brilliance and unwavering support.

The team also expressed its heartfelt gratitude to sports chairperson Moyane Chiraso and Principal Richard Usinga, whose encouragement and backing made this achievement possible.

Adding to the excitement, the Witbank High boys’ soccer team brought the third-place bronze home after they were defeated 1-0 in the semifinals against Oldmil.
