Mpumalanga dog sport trials see handlers and dogs battle it out

Handlers and dogs excel at SAWTDA regional trials.

The focus was entirely on precision, control, and elite capability as The Hockey Farm on the R555 hosted the highly anticipated SAWTDA Mpumalanga regional trials on July 4.

Organised by Mpumalanga Dog Sport (MDS), the event stripped away the typical frills of casual pet shows, placing the athletic synergy between handler and canine directly under the spotlight.

A total of 20 handlers and 28 dogs from Gauteng, KZN and Mpumalanga took part in working trials, a discipline that tests teamwork, control and skill through tasks such as obedience, search work, scent detection, agility and control exercises.

MDS chairperson Charmain Dreyer said the competition showed strong commitment from all participants.

“We are incredibly proud to have hosted competitors from across the country. The standard of teamwork between handlers and their dogs was exceptional, and we appreciate everyone who contributed to making the event a success.”

In the results, Mpumalanga competitors delivered strong performances on home ground. Darryl Seager and Maxi fought their way to first place to claim gold, while Michelle Williams and Nitro secured second place and silver.
