Father-of-three laid to rest following Klipfontein shooting

Following the burial of 30-year-old Sizwe Mahlabane on July 11, his family is now focused on the upcoming court appearance of his alleged killer.

An Ackerville family laid a loved one, Sizwe Mahlabane (30), to rest following a fatal shooting that occurred in Klipfontein early last week.

His funeral took place on July 11.

According to Mahlabane’s cousin, Nhlanhla Nkosi, the incident unfolded in the early hours of June 6, when an altercation reportedly broke out between Mahlabane and another man.

Although the fight was broken up, the suspect allegedly followed Mahlabane as he drove home.

Nkosi said his cousin was driving through Klipfontein when the suspect allegedly intercepted his vehicle and shot him. He was declared dead at the scene, leaving three children fatherless.

The incident has left the family devastated and struggling to accept the loss of a man known for his gentle nature.

Another relative said, “My cousin was a loving father, son and brother whose untimely death has caused immense pain to his loved ones, especially his children.”

The suspect surrendered to the police shortly after the incident. On July 7, he made his first appearance at the eMalahleni Magistrate’s Court, where his case was postponed to July 24 for a formal bail application.

“Everyone wants to see justice prevail,” Nkosi said.
