IEC urges eMalahleni residents to register or update voter details

Are you registered? Do you know your voting station? Are your details still correct?

eMalahleni residents are being urged to mark their calendars for the final voter registration weekend on August 1 and 2 to check, update, and fix their voter information before the local government elections.

The call comes as Emalahleni Local Municipality is among the municipalities affected by recent ward demarcations, with new wards introduced ahead of the upcoming elections.

The establishment of Ward 35 and Ward 36 has changed voting districts for hundreds of residents across areas including Siyanqoba, Empumelelweni, and communities surrounding Pine Ridge.

Voting stations will be open from 08:00 and 17:00.

IEC urges residents to check details. “We are encouraging residents to visit the stations and check that all their details are correct,” said IEC Mpumalanga spokesperson Thanduxolo Chembeni. “People who have moved, changed addresses, or are affected by the new ward boundaries should make sure they are registered in the correct ward before election day.”

Residents are reminded to bring a valid green barcoded ID, smart ID card, or valid temporary ID document when visiting their voting station. South Africans can register from the age of 16, although voting is only permitted from the age of 18.
