16 fatalities across the province on Mandela Day weekend
Traffic Alert urges motorists to always drive responsibly to prevent further crashes on Mpumalanga roads.
A deadly weekend on roads across Mpumalanga has left families mourning after 16 people lost their lives in five separate crashes.
According to Louwtjie Swart from Traffic Alert, four people were killed in a head-on collision on the R555 between Roossenekal and Stofberg.
A further four people died in a taxi crash on the R40 between Barberton and Mbombela. A third crash led to five fatalities, while one person died in a head-on collision on the R544 towards Verena.

The final incident occurred on the Stofberg Road, 30 km outside Middelburg, claiming two lives.
Swart advised motorists to slow down, avoid dangerous overtaking, and drive responsibly to prevent further crashes.
“Please stay alert, obey the rules of the road, avoid distractions, and never drive under the influence,” he said. “Drive safely and look out for one another.”
