Walter Bird set to walk in faith to bring hope and help elderly in eMalahleni
Despite living with heart problems, Parkinson’s disease, and high cholesterol, 53-year-old Walter Bird refuses to let illness define him.
While many people would allow serious health conditions to slow them down, Walter Bird (53) believes his greatest strength comes from his unwavering faith in God.
Living with heart problems, Parkinson’s disease, and high cholesterol, Bird says he has placed his life in God’s hands and believes he will overcome every challenge.
“I believe that, in the name of Jesus, I will overcome every illness. My faith is stronger than my circumstances, and I know God has called me to this mission,” Bird says.
Walking for a purpose
On July 27, Bird will embark on a walk from Jackaroo Park to Middelburg, not only as a personal act of faith but also as a mission to pray for people across the community.
Throughout the journey, he plans to pray for those battling illness, people trapped by substance abuse, families in need, and anyone seeking a closer relationship with God.
“I will be praying every step of the way. I want to win souls for Jesus, encourage people to trust God, and pray for everyone who needs hope,” he says.
Supporting elderly residents
The walk also has a charitable purpose. Bird hopes to raise donations to renovate the bathrooms at Immergroen Old Age Home.
“My wish is that every donation collected will help improve the lives of our elderly. They deserve to live with dignity, and if we can renovate their bathrooms, it will make a real difference,” says Bird.

Sign the cross
Ahead of the walk, Bird is inviting members of the public to be part of his journey by writing their names on a large wooden cross that he will carry.
He will be stationed at a bench near a car wash in Ben Fleur Boulevard Mall on July 25, from 08:00 to 15:00, where supporters can add their names to the cross, offer prayers, or make donations.
“I want to fill the cross with names. Every name represents someone I will pray for during my journey. Whether you’re sick, struggling, or simply need prayer, I will carry your name with me,” he says.
